Gorkhi-Terelj National Park

Gorkhi-Terelj National Park  is one of the most visited attractions due to its vicinity to Ulaanbaatar. The Terelj tourist zone is approximately 66 km from the Ulaanbaatar city center and belongs Khentii Mountain range sanctuary. It has a number of tourist camps, traditional ger camp resorts, and modern luxurious hotel resorts where people enjoy fresh air in spectacular scenery.

 The national park is characterised by picturesque alpine scenery along with the spectacular shaped rocks formed by wind. The name of the national park derived from the Terelj flower (Rhododendron parvifolium Adams) A type of Terelj flower grows in Terelj pass and the national park area starts from the pass. In the old days, this beautiful land was covered with Terelj flowers.

A small southern portion of the park is developed for tourists and crowded with restaurants, souvenir shops, horses and camels for rent, and tourist ger camps. However, most area of the national park is undeveloped and difficult to access. Including Khagiin Khar Lake, a 20 m deep glacial lake 80 km upstream from the tourist camps, and Yestii Hot Water Springs, natural hot springs 18 km further upstream.

The park also has a Buddhist monastery called “Aryabal meditation temple” that is open to visitors. Park wildlife includes brown bears and over 250 species of birds.

It is one of the perfect places for hiking, rock climbing, swimming (in icy-cold water), rafting and horse riding. Also, you may visit herder nomadic families to get know about their way of living. In winter, there's skiing and dog-sledding through December to February.
