Day 2: Elsen Tasarkhai - Kharkhorin- Tsenkher Hot Springs
At the break of dawn, following breakfast, we set out from Elsen Tasarkhai towards Tsenkher Hot Springs. En route, we traverse the historic Kharkhorin town, once the capital of the 13th-century Mongol Empire under the name Karakorum. Our first stop is the Kharkhorin museum, showcasing artifacts and the history of the ancient city of Karakorum. Briefly, we observe the turtle stone monument, a significant relic of Karakorum, and visit the Erdene Zuu Monastery, constructed in 1586.
Karakorum, razed by Ming dynasty troops after occupation, was unable to be reconstructed. However, utilizing various materials salvaged from the ruins of Karakorum, the Erdene Zuu Monastery was erected in 1586. It now stands in close proximity to the present-day Kharkhorin, embodying a rich history entwined with the remnants of the ancient capital.
From Kharkhorin, we head to Tsenkher Hot Springs. Tsenkher Hot Springs is an alfresco thermal spring situated amid the vast grasslands, providing an enchanting experience beneath the star-studded night sky. This tour is designed to indulge in the pleasures of open-air hot springs. Sourced from the mountains, the hot spring water is a natural mineral infusion renowned for its benefits to various skin conditions. It promotes skin health and beauty, but it is also effective for managing skin conditions
Day 3: Tsenkher Hot Spring - Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur (Terkh Lake)
Following an early breakfast, we proceed towards Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur, also known as Terkh White Lake. The appellation "White Lake" stems from the lake's remarkably transparent, clear, and pristine water. Situated in the Khangai Mountains in central Mongolia, this deep lake was formed through volcanic activity at an elevation of 2,000 meters, boasting expansive and crystal-clear waters reminiscent of the sea. Surrounded by volcanic formations, the region has earned national park status and was recognized as one of the prime travel destinations by CNN channel in 2011.
Mongolia has over 400 extinct volcanoes. The Khorgo volcano, last erupting 8,000 years ago, considered the final active one. Standing at an altitude of 2210 meters, with a crater height of approximately 200 meters, a diameter of around 200 meters, and a depth of about 100 meters, Khorgo is presently dormant. Feel free to bring a swimsuit as the lake is pristine and the water temperature is comfortably mild for swimming.
In this day, for dinner, the travelers will be offered by traditional Mongolian food "khorkhog".
Day 4: Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake - Murun (Khuvsgul)
In the morning, following breakfast, we embark on a substantial journey towards Murun. Murun is the most northern province Khuvsgul's central town. Though the day's travel is extensive, it leads you through sunken valleys, expansive plains, and river-laden landscapes adorned with vibrant flowers within a forested mountainous expanse. En route, you'll witness the splendor of nature and gain insights into the daily lives of Mongolian nomadic families, observing their primary livelihoods, which revolve around pastures hosting sheep, goats, cattle, and horses, as well as cultivated areas for vegetables and agriculture. Upon reaching Murun, the central hub of Khuvsgul province, you can take a well-deserved rest at a local hotel.
Day 5: Murun town- Khuvsgul Lake
Following breakfast, after 1 hour drive, we reach the shores of Khuvsgul Lake, nestled within the basin of the Khoridol Saridag Mountains at an elevation of 3200 meters above sea level. Upon arrival, we settle in at a tourist camp, allowing ample time for rejuvenation after our extensive journey. Khuvsgul Lake stands out as the clearest lake not only in Mongolia but also across Asia. Its crystal-clear waters, with visibility extending up to 20 meters, reveal the lake's diverse aquatic life from the water's edge. A remarkable array of 69 species of plankton micro-organisms thrives at depths of up to 5 meters, contributing to the lake's natural water purification process. Despite being home to 12 fish species, fishing activities are limited.
Our overnight stay at the lakeside tourist camp offers a chance to fully appreciate the serene beauty of the surroundings. Activities: boat excursions, mountain trekking, and horseback riding are available.
Day 6: Khuvsgul Lake – Bulgan province – Uran Togoo extinct volcano
We now proceed towards our next destination, the Bulgan province, where Mongolia's largest river, the Selenge Gol, flows through the northern part of the aimag, while the Orkhon and Tuul rivers wind through the southern regions. Bulgan aimag is renowned for its abundance of picturesque locations, including Eg-Selenge, Eg-Tarvagatai meadow, Uran-Togoo, Khugnukhan, Khuiji, Uurt, and various springs scattered throughout the province. Noteworthy historical landmarks include remnants from the Stone Age, ancient ruins, the site of Baibalyk (the ancient city of the Uighur State), and the remains of Prince Tsogt's residence. Bulgan holds significance as a revered pilgrimage site for Mongolians, owing to its rich historical sites.
We reach the tourist camp situated close to the dormant Uran Togoo volcano. This volcanic site is thought to have become extinct around 25,000 years ago, and its mountain summit remains undisturbed and uncracked. The name "Uran," meaning "Artistic" in Mongolian, was bestowed upon it by the locals due to the crater ridge resembling a beautifully crafted creature when observed from a distance. The circular ridge spans approximately 400 meters in diameter and encompasses a crater with a depth of 100 meters.
Day 7: Bulgan (Uran togoo volcano)- Chinggis Khaan Statue complex- Terelj National Park
Early morning, we leave the Bulgan province area heading to our next destination. This day's next sport is the Chinggis Khaan Equestrian Statue, a massive monument standing at 40 meters in height. In addition to visiting the statue, you will also explore the "small-museum of history" located in the monument's base building.
Following this, we proceed to Gorkhi-Terelj National Park, where lunch is served at a restaurant within a tourist camp. Positioned at the southern end of the Siberian taiga, Gorkhi-Terelj National Park is the closest and most renowned tourist attraction from Ulaanbaatar. The region boasts a captivating natural landscape featuring sparse forests, mountain valleys, rocky cliffs, rivers, and streams. After the meal, we venture to witness the intriguing rock formation known as Turtle Rock and conclude the day at the horse hitching post, where you can leisurely enjoy a horse ride.
Day 8: Terelj National Park - Ulaanbaatar city
After getting reach to Ulaanbaatar, you can visit Zaisan Observatory, State Department stores, and world-renowned goat cashmere brand stores at low prices. In your favor, we'll take you shopping at the State Department store or Cashmere Outlet after lunch in the restaurant. If you make a flight schedule within the day, we will arrange your smooth departure to the Airport.
